A: @Allie_CatMeow, A couple of my friends gave me the nickname.

Beckwith's career-high featured in IWS

Inside Wisconsin Sports magazine featured Edgewood College women's basketball senior Shae Beckwith in their "On Fire" feature. IWS was recognizing Beckwith's career-high of 20 points which propelled the Eagles to their first ever victory over UW-Oshkosh.

The Edgewood College women's basketball team began preseason practice at midnight on October 15, 2010 with a conditioning run around campus. Pay no attention to the tall player in the beak and feathers. I don't think he's going to make the team....

Eagle Basketball teams assist at Ironman aid station

The Edgewood College men's and women's basketball team volunteered for duty at the 2010 Ford Ironman Wisconsin triathlon in Madison. The Eagles served water and provided assistance to the triathletes until the late hours of Sunday night. They also found a little down time to get in some bags and touch football.

Old Edgedome scoreboards come down!

The old center hanging scoreboard in the Edgedome has been taken down. In its place, brand new wall-mounted boards from All-American Scoreboards. They look awesome!

Fiene featured on WKOW-27's Medical Minute

Edgewood College women's basketball student-athlete Amber Fiene was featured in a WKOW-27 news story on Sport & Spine Clinic's anti-gravity treadmill rehabilitation machine. Fiene injured her knee playing for the Eagles and has been using the machine in her efforts to return to the court. Click the headline to see the full video.

Catch the Eagle baseball team on WKOW-27 News at 10

UPDATE: This story will run on WKOW-27 on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. and on Fox 47 at 9:00 p.m.

The WKOW-TV27 sports team will be running a feature on the Edgewood College baseball team during their 6:00 broadcast. Sports anchor Matt Zahn will be speaking to some of the Eagles about their special relationship with a Matt Wright. Matt was an Eagle baseball recruit who tragically never got to play for the Eagles. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer and passed away on October 5, 2009.

Many members of the team got to know Matt well and Matt served as the inspiration for the Eagles' "Strike Out Cancer" Awareness Day last Sunday.

Cornell College Classic to broadcast Eagle games

We learned today the Cornell College will be providing Live Video and Live Stats of both Edgewood College women's basketball games at the Cornell College Classic. The Eagles meet Mount Mercy (Iowa) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and turn around to play Nebraska Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Scheele throws out first pitch for Mallards

Former Edgewood College women's basketball standout Megan Scheele, threw out the first pitch for the Madison Mallards on Friday, July 24th at the Duck Pond. Reports from insider sources tell us it was sinking fastball on the outer half of the plate for a called strike.

As I was asked to write my final blog I’m thinking to myself, “I can’t believe our season's over. It went so fast.” As for many teams we wanted to go all the way and get into the NCAAs, but for us that didn’t happen. Even though our season ended earlier then we would have liked, there were a lot of great memories and experience that made this season one of the best for me.

In the beginning of the season we had a slow start and not the best record, but that almost got us motivated and made us work harder, which set the tone for the rest of the season and how we played. After the rough start the team got going and we started to play well and never looked back. It was an exciting season for the team- we were working and meshing well together and playing Edgewood College basketball. One of the great memories for the team was when we went to the Bahamas for our winter tournament. We played well and we won the whole thing. That was the first tournament in my career that we have ever won, so it was very exciting.

For me, this season was one of the best in my career. Being a senior I knew I needed to be a leader for the younger players, this was going to be a learning experience for myself, just as much as it was going to be for them. My teammates were great, worked well everyday together and made playing basketball fun. I loved playing with them all, each one of them taught me something that I will never forget and will cherish every memory from this year. The same is true for the coaching staff. They put so much time and effort to help us become the team we are today. I am thankful for every single one of them and all that they do. They have taught me so much and are the ones that made me the player I am today.

As for me personally I can’t believe my college career is over. It went by so fast and it’s hard for me to know that I won’t wear an Edgewood College jersey again and go and play the game that I love. Even though it’s over for me, I had a lot of great memories and accomplishments that I never knew I would get from playing basketball. All of what I have accomplished individually wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my teammates and coaches, so thank you to you all. You made basketball the best for me here at Edgewood College and I will always remember you all.

Playing basketball here at Edgewood College was the best decision of my life. I not only grew as a player, but as a person as well. I have learned so much and I hope all of my teammates and the other future Eagles experience what I have and enjoy it all.

Scheele to be on "Hoopsville" Sunday night

Edgewood College women's basketball player Megan Scheele will be a guest on the popular internet radio talk show Hoopsville on Sunday night. Hoopsville is a twice weekly show, hosted by Dave McHugh, covering Division III basketball from coast to coast. Hoopsville airs from 5-7 p.m. Central Standard time. Scheele will likely be joining the show around 5:15 p.m.

If you miss the live broadcast, the show will be archived approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion.

Siblings take friendly rivalry to court

The following is an article that appeared in the Stevens Point Journal on December 30, 2008. Sophomore women's basketball player Kacy Sporle had the rare opportunity to play a game against her sister Jessi, who is a senior for UW-Stevens Point. Scott Williams of the Stevens Point Journal interviewed Kacy, Jessi and their parents leading up to the game.

WKOW-TV coverage of Scheele's record night

Thank you to WKOW-TV 27 in Madison for their coverage of Megan Scheele's special night when she became Edgewood College's all-time leading scorer.

Cupery loses one record, but gains two more!

Last night at the Edgedome, Deb Cupery (Boomsma) witnessed Megan Scheele move past her on the Edgewood College all-time scoring list, taking over a record which Deb had held for 18 years. No one in the gym realized however that Deb would be leaving the Edgedome with two other records now rightfully credited to her name.

I had several conversations with Deb leading up to the historic day. During one of those conversations Deb remarked that she noticed EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com listed the single game scoring record at 38 points, accomplished by Scheele in the first game of the 2006-07 season. Deb couldn't recall the exact game, but was pretty sure that she had recorded a 46-point game at some point in her career.

I admitted to Deb, that while I was confident that we had her season and career totals correct, our archives had very little information about single games during her playing years of 1987-91. I told her it was entirely possible that she had scored 46 points in a game, and if she could come up with some kind of evidence, like a newspaper article or a box score, I'd gladly amend the records.

Last night, when Deb and her family walked in the door, her mom proudly produced the evidence needed, a newspaper clipping from a February 18, 1989 game against Silver Lake. Not only did the newspaper article confirm Deb's single game scoring record, but it also showed she made 21 field goals in the game, also a new school record.

Deb even handed out an assist to a former teammate who handed her so many assists during their playing days. That same article indicated Ellen Zgonc led the team with 15 assists (undoubtedly many of those to Deb) which is also a new single game record at Edgewood College.

If you read the article, you'll notice that the headline and article indicates an Edgewood College victory, but the box score indicates the Eagles lost. In fact, the Eagles did lose this game 94-81, which must have slipped past a long-forgotten copywriter. It's nice to know other people can make mistakes too.
